Some boots go quietly about their business. This one has a bit more to say, and says it well. The Winifred sits low on the ankle with a lace and a buckle across the front, so it holds properly rather than slipping about as you walk. It works with jeans, with a longer skirt, with the sort of dress you were not sure what to put on your feet with. It has a way of pulling an outfit together in about four seconds.

WHY THE WINIFRED?

Standing Room, All Afternoon : The heel is around 5cm, low and squared rather than narrow, so your weight sits properly and stays there. You can walk into town in these and be fine walking back out again.

Held, Not Squeezed : The laces let you adjust the fit across the top of the foot, and the buckle takes up any last bit of slack. If your feet swell a little by the evening, this is the part that matters.

The Buckle Does The Work : A single metal buckle across the front is the whole detail, and it is enough. It catches the light, keeps the front of the boot interesting, and saves you having to think about accessories.

Jeans, Skirts, Or A Long Dress : It sits equally well under a straight leg jean and at the end of something floaty. That flexibility is what makes it the pair you keep by the door from September onwards.

Six Colours, Sizes 3 To 11 : Black, Brown, Army Green, Blue, Grey and Burgundy, with half sizes through the smaller end of the range. The Brown and Burgundy are the ones people compliment most.
