TAKES THE CREDIT

Most knitted dresses keep you warm and leave it at that. Georgina does the warm part and then the belt goes on, and suddenly you look like you have somewhere rather nice to be. It is the dress for the autumn lunch, the theatre matinee, the Sunday when family are coming round and you want to look like yourself on a good day. One piece, one buckle, and the morning is settled.

WHY THE GEORGINA?

• A belt that gives you a waist: The belt sits at the natural waist and fastens with a neat rectangular buckle, drawing the eye to exactly the right place. Pull it in for a sharper line or leave it a notch looser after lunch, and nobody will be any the wiser.
  
  
• Sleeves with a bit of character: The sleeves are full through the arm and gathered into a deep, close cuff at the wrist. It is the detail that makes the whole dress look considered, and it keeps your arms covered without a cardigan over the top.
  
  
• A rib that flatters from top to hem: Fine vertical ribbing runs the length of the dress, which lengthens the line and holds its shape through the day. It follows you rather than clinging, so it looks as good at four o'clock as it did at nine.
  
  
• A length you can walk in properly: It falls to a midi length with a slit at the front, so you can take the stairs, climb into the car and cross a car park without shuffling. Ankle boots in autumn, knee boots when it really turns.
  
  
• Six colours, sizes S to 2XL: White, Grey, Black, Apricot, Navy and Caramel, from the quiet end to the warm. It runs true to size, and if you are between two, the larger of the pair gives a little more ease through the hip.
